Growth-Hormone Injection
A process of injecting hormones into farm animals which rapidly increases their growth rate.
Animal cruelty concerns:
Using growth hormones causes many health problems in pigs due to the unnatural manipulation of their growth process. For instance, the pigs' joints and bones cannot handle the rapid growth leading to constant pain. This is stacked upon the respiratory, organ, and metabolic harm caused by the hormone injections.
Tail Docking & Ear Notching
A process of cutting off a portion of a piglet's tail and ear shortly after birth.
Animal cruelty concerns:
These procedures are painful for piglets as they have nerve endings in their tails and the piglets are almost never given pain killers. The animal agriculture industry often puts profit first, as it would be too expensive to give pain killers to the piglets and ear/tail docking is perfectly “legal”.
